GMAT Sentence Correction (SC) | fourty foot/feet (subject verb agreement)

Hi, can someone please explain which of the following sentence is correct, and why ?

a) he jumped into a forty foot deep well

b) he jumped into a forty feet deep well

Answer with the explanation would be highly appreciated.
