First I wish to know how a gerund is identified:
Her playing of the Bach fugues was inspiring. (playing takes a prepositional phrase rather than an object; not a gerund)
extracted from wikipedia.
His passing the TOEFL was surprising.
So for the passing in the above sentence is a gerund since there are no prepositions above?
Then would the modified sentence be grammatically correct:
