GMAT Sentence Correction (SC) | Like vs As

An MGMAT SC question :

Eyewitnesses describe the missing passenger a lawyer in his late forties .


I think it should be like a lawyer in his later forties the guys was not really (probably) a lawyer in his forties .

But , the official answer is AS .

Did I miss anything ?

Please help !
