Can you please try explaining the below mentioned corollary you stated in an alternative way.

"If y>x, then we have x^2>y>x>y^2. But in this case x>1, since x^2>x and y<1, since y>y^2, that is impossible since y>x.

So, we have y-x<0 and x+y>0. Sufficient."
