GMAT Sentence Correction (SC) | Re: More adeptly handling responsibility than his predecessors

Imo D. I thik all of us agree that fight is between B and D. But in B the comparison is inappropriate. " he was more adept.. then were his predecessors. " is wrong. . Imo if it were "he was more adept ... than his predecessors were" is the right order to say this and is parallel .. and maybe that have been correct; So I went with D.
