Not necessarily - the rule is that for a parallel structure the repeated words (even a verb) may be omitted from the second element if the meaning is not obscured. In this case the sentence before omission is:
Parents discipline male children as they would discipline daughter.
Since "discipline" is already there in the first element and no ambiguity
