Can you please help why Option B is not better than Option D or how Option D is much weakens.

I suppose B is better answer than D because there is no dependency on one tree but Option D says that there is still a dependency on one particular tree to atleast initiate the start.

It means if that tree does not exists, then the variety of mushroom also cannot exists.

So Option B is far better than Option D.
