man, I feel like I was bullied by GMAC when solving this problem.
I crossed C out because "covering" should modify "earth" - the noun directly preceded "covering". Many other answers were said "illogical" in the OG for this issue, but now, it said that C was direct, unambiguous, and grammatically correct!
