Goodbye Adaptive GMAT...

About 10 GMAT Prep's in, I can report to the small group of those who are following the developments of GMAT Focus is that the GMAT's famous adaptive algorithm will soon become a saga, legend, and eventually a myth. There is still some variability in outcomes but it seems hardly relevant.

  • As noted in the 6-QuestionExperiment , and the first hint at the test's new structure, you can miss 6 questions in the beginning, middle, or end of the test and practically receive the same score.

  • The fact that you can change 3 questions on the test points to the demise of adaptability as well. Changing answers from initially incorrect to correct does not have an impact on the final score. What matters at the end is how many mistakes you have made and what was the difficulty of those questions, with the usual bigger reward for getting hard questions right or greater punishment for getting easy questions wrong. Depends if you are a half-full or half-empty type of a guy.
