Here’s my stab at why E doesn’t work - The conclusion says the ancient inhabitants of Lakahoa did not believe those statues were of high enough quality. There’s an emphasis on their belief/feelings and not the reality of those statues being lower quality. Maybe if they had the means to assess them properly, they’d come out with a different conclusion. It could go either way in my opinion. D makes more sense because it’d completely refute the conclusion if the area around the quarry was considered sacred. D /HAS/ to be assumed in order for the conclusion to work. I’m hoping someone else will answer this query too though
