General GMAT Questions and Strategies | GMAT Retake - Low Quant Strong Verbal

Since I got super helpful advice from Rich, I thought I'd provide more context here and benefit from your collective wisdom. Any advice you would have for me to (1) increase my quant score from the first exam at 42; and (2) sustain my verbal and IR score from 40 and 8 respectively would be very appreciated. (The AWA score just came in and it's 6. So I think my weak point is really quant.) I plan to sit for the second exam in about six weeks' time.

Background:
- I took my first GMAT test earlier this week and am not at all happy with the score (composite 670; verbal 40, IR 8, and AWA 6 are ok, but my quant is very weak at 42).
- I took a one-month break from work about five weeks before the exam and studied on average 8 - 10 hours a day, six days a week. I will be able to take only 3 - 4 hours max a day going forward and sit for the second exam in early - mid December.
- For the schools I want to get in, I need at least 700 in GMAT and will be aiming for 720/ 730 in GMAT
