The officials announced something and a prediction was made 2 months ago. So from a tenseperspective , we have a clear sense of the timeline/ sequence. Second observation is the use of 'it' which in all fairness seems confusing (is 'it' the gap or the projected deficit / prediction). Lets try to look for options w/o the pronounusage.
