Not going to lie, I picked B without even reading the full sentence... and I should have:
'One hallmark of the mortgage-banking crisis, robo-signing, in which banks blindly accepted legal documents without checking them for accuracy or authenticity, has led to a series of lawsuits against large banks such as Bank of America and Citigroup.'
B is IMO correct ON ITS OWN, but if you read the whole sentence, it doesn't flow.
In Sentence A:
the part: 'in which banks blindly accepted legal documents without checking them for accuracy or authenticity,' Is a modifier of 'One hallmark of the mortgage-banking crisis'. At the end of this modifier, the sentence continues 'has led to a series of lawsuits...' and it flows perfectly
Sentence B: Try reading the sentence without the modifier, it just doesn't make sense:
Robo-signing was one hallmark of the mortgage-banking crisis,[Modifier], has led to a series of lawsuits against large banks such as Bank of America and Citigroup.'
