Despite their tiny size and seemingly simple lives, bees possess a remarkable form of communication – a complex "waggle dance" that conveys information about the location of food sources to their hivemates. This dance, first deciphered by Austrian ethologist Karl von Frisch in the 1920s, involves a series of intricate movements: a straight "waggle run" in the direction of the food, followed by a half-circle turn to the left or right depending on the angle of the food source relative to the sun. The intensity of the waggle and the duration of the dance further encode the distance and quality of the food.
