Tennyson's poem was published in 1850. Darwin's theory of evolution became publicly well-known only in 1859. The author uses these dates to conclude that Tennyson's poem referred to some other older theory instead of Darwin's theory. We are to answer on what role the publication dates of Tennyson's poem & Darwin's theory play in theargument.­

(A) It casts doubt on whether the theory of evolution should be attributed to Darwinalone.

(B) It supports the claim that creationist theories of biology were dominant in the early nineteenthcentury.
We don't know if that other theory was dominant ornot.
