As mentioned in our earlier posts, the new analysis acknowledges the presence of positive change, negative change, and continuity. So yes, an answer choice limited to "continuity" probably wouldn't work as the primary purpose.
Thankfully, we only need to worry about eliminating choice (D) as it is written -- there's no reason to waste brain cells analyzing your own tweaked versions of the answer choices! As long as you understand why (E) is better than (D), you can move on.
