Need to resolve despite the erosive force of wind on mountain, highest mountain are in area where these erosive forces are strongest.

(A) Patterns of extreme wind and precipitation often result from the dramatic differences in elevation commonly found in the highest mountain ranges.

If the elevation is causing this high erosive environment, then it resolves our issue.

(B) The highest mountain ranges have less erosion-reducing vegetation near their peaks than do other mountain ranges.

Less erosion reducing vegetation are there but still strong effect of erosive wind is there. We cannot be sure that vegetation erosion is that strong

(C) Some lower mountain ranges are formed by a different collision process, whereby one tectonic plate simply slides beneath another of lesser density.

How they are formed is irrelevant, we are concerned that why strong erosive environment has highest peak

(D) The amount of precipitation that a given region of the earth receives may vary considerably
