GMAT Critical Reasoning (CR) | Verbal Focus Q: Layers of the earth’s crust are exposed

I guess D might be correct . the exposed crust might have been lower once than today , only then the animal would have been able to survive or even exposed to such environment. We can't say specifically any particular ocean like the E(Pacific ocean), and hence E might be incorrect.
