how can I identify a dangling modifier? and what should be the approach in sentence correction?
A dangling modifier is one that have no noun to refer to. Following examples are from Manhattan SCGuide:
Resigned to the bad news , there was no commotion in theoffice.
Walking along the river , the new tower can be seen.
The modifiers "Resigned to the bad news" and "Walking along the river" do not have nouns to refer to. Hence they are dangling modifiers.
