Correct Idiom: Awarded X in recognition of Y

Note

- "...the nation’s highest military award.." is a modifier, hence sentence will stand even without it.
- "...inlong overdue recognition...", herelong overdue is an essential modifier modifyingrecognition

Side note
-in recognition for is also correct idiom
-Awarded with X is also correct, howeverAwarded X is preferred
