I took GMAT three times:
First attempt: 620 (Prep Time: 2 months)
Second attempt: 630 (Prep Time:8 months - obviously inefficient 8 months)
Third attempt: 730! (Prep time: 2.5 months)
So definitely recommend re-taking if you need to breach that 700 barrier, but it takes a lot of preparation to get there.
After two poor results in the first two tests, I was strongly discouraged, especially, after I had invested so much time and effort to prep for the second test only to achieve a meager 10 point
