GMAT Sentence Correction (SC) | Re: Sentence correction

I have doubt in this point: In MGMAT i read in tenses that " A sequence of verbs with the same subject does not require Past Perfect"

So now in this eg: The paintings that were stolen from the museum this year, were bought by the curators of this museum in a coveted auction in Paris.

It should be had been bought to show proper sequence but going with MGMAT point since both the verbs have same subject paintings ,past perfect is not needed.
