Clearly between C & D.. "controlled experiments and statistical tests" are just 2 examples of "scientific methods" but the argument holds true for other scientific methods that are not stated. Therefore instead of choosing C (that ONLY points to the 2 examples of scientific methods), D is a better choice as it says "scientific methods" it is more complete. Hope I am clear in my understanding, since I am not an expert by any stretch of imagination.
