Yeah, I agree that there are some issues with this question. I think it might even be possible to defend (D), depending on what you think the author is trying to say.

And you've all heard my usual disclaimer, but here it is again: the GMAT spends between $1500 and $3000 developing each question, and even the awesome crew here at GMAT Club can't quite compete.

So please don't lose sleep over this one, friends!
