GMAT Verbal Section | Re: GMAT SC: "Out of" vs "From"

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to do a quick check to see whether anyone would know which of the below sentences would be acceptable/preferred on the GMAT SC:

1) Out of the 20 people who registered, only 5 were successfully admitted.
2) From the 20 people who registered, only 5 were successfully admitted.

Is there a difference? I would say that the second option is definitely correct, but is the first one necessarily wrong?
