I'm not sure that there's a great answer to that, unfortunately. I think the GMAT might argue that the correct -- and more direct -- idiom is "take three years to accomplish a task", not "take three years until they accomplish a task." The latter is a mild waste of words, I guess, but I'm not 100% sure that it's wrong. In any case, idioms are,
