Secondly, I read somewhere that ING-modifier must make sense with the subject of the sentence.
EG:
Messi scored two goals , making his team win. -> Here making modifies the entire sentence but make sense with the Subject Messi as well.
Jeff became the CEO of the company , increasing his pay significantly. -> this
