Upon analysing the question and options provided, one can quickly eliminate A and B on the grounds of ‘were in revolution ‘ Vs ‘Revolted’ because the sentence need verb ‘revolted’ to be complete. Also among C,D and E , C illogically and humorously compare the revolt with the length of people ( non-Anglian protestents). D changes the meaning as if revolt and being against are two different things. Option E seems to be right answer with verb ‘revolted’ and ‘did’ towards the end
