Can you please shed some light on question 2.

Here I was between choices A & C and have eliminate A because preceding lines clearly tell that prior to these advances, the scientists were skeptical of the vertical rise due to tectonic movement.

Secondly, I thought the question is an inference one & C seems to be directly stated hence eliminated C.

Please advise on how to overcome this fallacy.
