I had shortlisted C and D. After that, since I could not find any grammatical errors in both, I started looking for the difference in meaning and concision. The reason that I eliminated C was because C was using passive voice which made the action sound intentional. It makes it sound like expelling salt is an action that crocodiles can do as their wish, which should not be the case. I did not find any such issue with option D.
