Verb tense issue :
A. Had... Faced... >> Put this on a timeline and see if the sequencing. It shows that the army first defeats the opponent and then the King plans . Totally wrong.

B. Simple past. Stating facts. No issue.
C.having never faced defeat is a verb ING modifier and therefore does not make sense with the rest of the sentence.
D. Whose army? No pronoun.
E.never being defeated is wrong use of tense
