The practice tests are useful. They help test takers get familiar with the test, and they generate score estimates that are quite reliable. They are not, however, perfectly representative of the actual GMAT.

For example, The actual GMAT most likely has a larger pool of questions, and is under active development and maintenance. If the pool of DI questions in the practice tests is relatively small, we would expect the section to not be as adaptive as DI on the actual GMAT. Another side effect of this would be that DI on the practice tests may be more unforgiving.
