The problem with trying to distinguish this/these/those is that this usage depends on context. Without any context, there's no way to say that any of those three words is wrong. Needless to say, the GMAT would never provide us with an SC question like this.
(I just realized that I used "those" in my explanation: "those three words." Notice that it is not describing anything far away. It's simply one way of referring to something I'd just mentioned. I could also have said "these.")
