Given Jacob has > shirts than his brother.
let no. of shirts of Jacob be J and no. of shirts of his brother be B.
S1 - J^2-B^2 = 17
(J+B)(J-B)=17
We see that only numbers 9 and 8 satisfy the equation by trial and error.
