I disagree with the previous posters. The choice is between D and E but I think E is the correctchoice.
D. is astonishing: flashing a random scattering of numerals on a screen for half a second and then covering the numbers with white squares,
the sentence continues with "a numerically schooled young orangutan". Therefore, it seems as if the young orangutan would flash the numerals and cover the numbers. This isn't the case to my understanding because a human will conduct these tasks.
