This question sounds more like the second conditional which stipulates that when we use simple past in the if clause, then we have to use the modal 'would' in the main clause, subjunctive or no subjunctive.

Since scientific postulates are more of universal facts and not fancies or speculatives, they can even be termed as either zero conditionals or first conditionals.

Look at the following sentences.

1. Scientists conclude that if experimental subjects are deliberately infected with cowpox,

Skywalker18 wrote:

Premillennialism - a type of eschatology (the study of the last things) based on a literal and rigid interpretation of the Bible - and the corresponding global events were the major reasons of the rise of American fundamentalism in the early 1900s. It also played an important part in the fall of Hitler and in the rise of America as a superpower. Premillennialists, most of them fundamentalists, then generally believed that the teachings of the Bible, especially when overlaid with some of Jesus’ and Paul’s New Testament statements, reveal a hidden “plan of the ages” according to which the current age will climax with the restoration of the land of birth of Jesus, the emergence of powerful empires in Rome, Russia, and the Far East, and then war. The plan further stated that out of this chaos, a new leader will appear, promising peace and security, and most political and religious leaders, unwilling or unable to recognize that this leader is actually the prophesied antichrist, will cede their sovereignty and independence to him. But just before this tyrant is revealed for the threat that he is, all true Christians will join the resurrected Jesus, battle the forces of evil at Armageddon, and establish a millennial kingdom of peace and prosperity on earth.

This belief, malleable enough to fit the many crises and changing geopolitical contexts of the twentieth century, especially World War II, proved stable enough to provide fundamentalists with a secure sense of their place in this world. Along with the rebirth of the Roman Empire, the rise of Hitler and the corresponding growth of anti-Semitism around the globe emerged as signs seized by fundamentalists as evidence of the looming rupture and the “plan of ages” coming true. After completing a 1933 tour of Germany, the Boston minister Harold Ockenga, a fundamentalist, called Hitler, the Nazi leader, “an instrument in the hand of God for the restoring the birth place of Jesus.” Many fundamentalists and other conservatives, already predisposed to see evidence of impending doom and extremely motivated to end Hitler’s reign, were convinced by F.D. Roosevelt’s utopian promises that he might be laying the foundations for a revolution against Hitler. They supported him even though they had initially greeted Roosevelt’s campaign for president with skepticism. As a result, upon being elected as president, Roosevelt appointed several fundamentalists on the cabinet. This reciprocal action led to help spread the fundamentalist movement to new geographies almost spanning the entire country.

1. In the light of the information provided in the passage, it may be inferred that the fundamentalists considered themselves to play the role of
A. Forces of the new leader who will appear out of chaos promising peace and prosperity.
B. Citizens of the newly resurrected Roman or Russian empires.
C. Leaders of the world who cede control to the tyrant.
D. True Christians who battle the forces of the evil at Armageddon.
E. People who restore the place of birth of Jesus

2. It may be inferred from the author’s statement in the beginning of paragraph 2 “this belief, malleable enough to fit the many crises, …” that.
A. The Premillennialism belief was so generic that it might have fit some other geopolitical crisis had World War II not taken place.
B. The Premillennialism belief fit World War II perfectly, much better than it fit any other crisis.
C. The Premillennialism belief lacked any historical credibility or solid grounds for its existence.
D. Premillennialists had twisted the belief on purpose to the extent that it fit World War II perfectly.
E. The unique formulation of the belief not only allowed it to be specific enough to fit World War II but also stable enough to last throughout the war.

3. The main purpose of the passage is to
A.Illustrate that Premillennialism and World War 2 were the reasons of Roosevelt’s election as president.
B. Disprove the belief that fundamentalists had little relationship with world politics.
C. Renew the interest in eschatology by illustrating its contribution to World War 2.
D. Provide a correlation between beliefs of Premillennialists and rise of Hitler.
E. Illustrate how Premillennialism and World War 2 led to the rise of American Fundamentalism

Answers and Explanations

1) Read the relevant lines to get a feel for what’s going on, which is made easier by the fact that the author defines the term immediately after using it. We’re looking for an answer choice that involves forming an opinion on something near-instantly. Choice (B) fits this perfectly.
(A): Distortion. A basic understanding of the difference between subconscious and preconscious (line 12) is crucial here.
(B): The correct answer
(C): Opposite. This would involve consciousness, not preconsciousness.
(D): Opposite. As above, this would primarily involve consciousness.
(E): Opposite. As above, this would primarily involve consciousness.
[header3]2)

How do these scientists fit into the author’s argument? They’re the ones disagreeing with it in ¶2. Look for a statement that would challenge the author’s point of view. Choice (A) would contradict the idea that values are placed automatically on things such as unfamiliar words.
(A): The correct answer
(B): Distortion. The author mentions in ¶5 that even the scientists who disagree rely on the idea that the mind can make interpretations in the first 250 milliseconds.
(C): Distortion. ¶2 states that the scientists who disagree admit that "such evaluations are made under many circumstances," just not all. Note that the phrase "no effect" makes this choice too extreme.
(D): Out of Scope. The passage doesn't discuss this.
(E): Out of Scope. The passage doesn't discuss this.

3)

Keep focused on the map when evaluating the answer choices. Look for three things that fit in with the author’s argument, keeping an eye out for one that might simply contradict the author’s point outright. In this case, (C) is unusually easy to spot: it contradicts the basic conclusion of the experiment the author cites in ¶1.
(A): Opposite. This is the author's main argument.
(B): Opposite. The wording "these evaluations are...applied even to things people have never encountered before" implies that they also apply to things with which people are familiar.
(C): The correct answer
(D): Opposite. ¶4 discusses this.
(E): Opposite. This can be inferred from the last paragraph.[/header3]

I think E is correct answer

narrow down to choices based on last words he /CEO
since we have CEO's in beginning there is nothing He could refer to so there needs to be CEO

Also comparison of more ...than is correct In E not in D where it uses more ... as so

my take is on E though it uses phrase on monthly basis which is in original sentence

I marked Option 'E' thinking that 'they' doesn't create pronoun ambiguity and I think it is reasonable too.
Why would employers inform that they have a right to 'overtime pay'. So, logically, I think there is no pronoun ambiguity. It'll be better if some expert shed light on this.
Should't we always look for logical antecedent or should we blindly cross-off a choice purely because there are multiple antecedents (whether logical or not)?

egmat Need your 2 cents.
